What are dental cavities?

A dental cavity is a hole in the tooth that is caused by microbial decay.Decay occurs when 'plaque' , the sticky substance that forms on the teeth, combines with the sugars and starches of the food we eat. This combination produces acids that attack tooth enamel thus causing decay.A cavity is usually seen as a black/brown discolouration on the tooth surface.
Dental cavities need immediate attention because a futher delay in the treatment can cause the decay to move further inside the tooth ,towards the underlying dental nerves, causing severe pain.

Diet rules for pearly white teeth

We all love to flash a bright, white smile.Sparkling teeth help you achieve your vision of perfection and improve your overall personality. But,sometimes,no matter how regularly we brush our teeth ,how particular we are about our oral hygiene,we still manage to get stains on our teeth.Given below are a few basic diet tips which can help you achieve a great smile:-
1.Consumption of highly acidic foods and carbonated drinks should be minimised.
2.Always try to use a straw for drinking carbonated drinks and juices as it minimises contact of the drink and its contents with your teeth.
3.Always eat the sweets quickly as sucking sweet for long causes acid production which is harmful for the health of your teeth.
4.Try to rinse your mouth after every meal.
5.Brushing at night, before going to sleep is very important,so that the acidic foods do not linger in your mouth all night long.
